About the Author

Ray Lampe a.k.a. Dr. BBQ grew up in Chicago and spent the first 25 years of his adult life in the family trucking business. In 2000 that all changed when he moved to Florida and began his career as an outdoor cooking expert. These days Ray spends his time writing and traveling all in pursuit of excellent grilled and smoked food. He's written 8 books, he's the national spokesman for The Big Green Egg and in 2014 he was inducted into the BBQ Hall Of Fame.

I was a truck driver in Chicago for 25 years and cooking in BBQ contests was a hobby that started back in 1982. When the trucking business had run it's course and was done I moved to Florida to sell BBQ in a parking lot. I taught a few cooking classes and wrote a few articles and the next thing I knew I was writing my "Big Time Barbecue Cookbook". Since then writing cookbooks and traveling to promote them has become my full time passion and I'm loving every minute of it. I still cook contests when I can and do some cooking classes. This cookbook is another hit. Personally read all the reviews and I have to say this is a cook book, not a how too book. Well it does show you how to cook great food. Trust me I have eaten enough of Ray's cooking to say it's always great.

When people ask me what can you cook on a BGE my response is always the same "Anything you can cook in your oven only it will be better". The recipes in this book only proves that. Recipes within this book will be good from an oven, but they will be great cooked in a BGE.

Don't be afraid to give this book a chance, you will not regret it.

As a novice BGE owner this book has given me some helpful tips and some very good recipes. I do reference often when cooking.

So far it seems simple for people to use and well laid out without overwhelming people with information. I have not finished going through the book yet, but i look forward to trying some of his recipes on my Big Green Eggs soon. I have enjoyed Ray Lampe's other BBQ books very much and this looks to be a great addition to my cook book library

Bought a BGE this summer and this book is a good starter to understand the BGE and get ideas for what you can do with it. I also suggest watching all the YouTube Vids.

Great mix of recipes for the Big Green Egg. We have tried several of these recipes so far, all have been excellent. Can't wait to try the rest. Recipes are easy to make with ingredients that are readily found.

Well, I can’t believe that I would be making the 2nd review of the Ray Lampe BGE book. I have been waiting for it to show up on my kindle for a number of weeks now. Disclaimer: I am a big fan of Ray and I do own a number of his grilling books. So, after taking a quick first pass through the book, it does give me some good ideas for my own Kamado Joe grill/smoker, --similar to the BGE. Looking forward to trying out some of the recipes this weekend, --that is if Hurricane Matthew gives me a break…… Yep, this book is not just for the BGE fans.

Got for my husband's Christmas present. He bought himself a Big Green Egg but then realized he didn't know what to cook on it. He uses this every time and as long as he follows the instructions and recipes to the letter everything turns out PERFECT!!!! Do not deviate from these instructions until you are a master, he worked out the science for you in advance. Great recipe book!

My bro-in-law has the Big Green Egg and it’s the lol (love of his life). I got him this book for Christmas and I’ve never seen anyone go so ga-ga for a cookbook. He’s big into smoking meats, therefore he neglected opening the rest of his gifts until he finished items that were smokeable.

Dr. BBQ Ray Lampe erklärt rund 80 verschiedene Gerichte. Allerdings sollte man schon etwas Fortgeschrittener sein, für Webxxxx Wissenschaftler. Die Gerichte sind sehr US BBQ lästig, auch sehr viele Low and Slow Gerichte.
Das Buch ist auf englisch geschrieben, im Anhang findet man eine Umrechnungstabelle.

Great book for those with a Big Green Egg. Ray Lampe simply loves his and it has some great ideas. If it's just for the BBQ'd watermelon, which to be perfectly honest has totally rocked our world, it's worth buying this book! We sprinkle ours with garlic granules and cayenne pepper. It's like vegan tuna steaks! Totally delicious.
The only thing I would say - it is definitely more for meat lovers... which I know is to be expected with BBQing but nevertheless there are some great ideas and we've learnt a lot about how to use our Green Egg more efficiently from his introduction. Even though we don't eat much meat, we've really enjoyed this book and will continue to use it. Ray's enthusiasm is infectious and definitely motivates you to use your Egg more and helps fuel our passion for this great invention.
